Description

This photo shows (left to right) Helen Hutchinson (Groves), Carmen Rodgers (teacher), and Carrie Agee posing in what is probably an 8th grade graduation photo.
Prairie Chapel School was located 3 miles east and 2 miles south of Maroa. The building was built c. 1870 and also served as Epworth Chapel Church for about 20 years until the church building was constructed in 1891.

The school closed after the 1947-1948 school year and was consolidated into the Argenta-Oreana district. The building was sold in August 1949 and was later demolished.
